Quick Answer

Death puts carried gear at risk; Lockbox contents stay safe. In Gray Zone Warfare, respawn at base or the nearest COP held by your faction, then return to loot your latest body. Bodies remain for 60 minutes, but another death or session restrictions can end your personal access sooner.

What equipment do you lose when you die?

You leave carried belongings to recover from your body, while items inside your Lockbox stay protected after death. Firearms and separate gun parts can be lost if you fail to recover them. Getting killed therefore creates a recovery problem: the equipment on your body is still something you must retrieve.

ItemDeath outcome
Carried belongingsRecovery from your body
Firearms and separate gun partsLoss risk if unrecovered
Items inside your LockboxProtected

Put items you want to protect inside your Lockbox before you head out. Its protection applies to its contents, so do not treat your other carried equipment as equally safe.

Dying and respawning at base also deals a fixed amount of durability damage to your firearms, attached gun parts and equipment. That is separate from losing gear you fail to recover.

A shared task with a survival condition fails if a squad member dies in action. Recovering equipment does not undo that failure. This rule concerns shared tasks with a survival condition, rather than every active task.

Where do you respawn, and can you get your stuff back?

You can respawn at base or the nearest COP held by your faction, then return to loot your latest body while you still have access to it.

Choose your respawn point

Pick base or the nearest faction-held COP. Choose the option that suits your return route rather than assuming every death forces you back to base.

Locate your equipment

Return to where you died. Tracking tags attached to equipment let you track its position on the map and can help you find your body.

Recover your latest body

Interact with your latest body and retrieve your belongings. Stay cautious around the death location: a body means a fight happened there recently, and another death changes which body you can loot.

Do not treat the return trip as a free attempt. Review the advanced combat tips before repeating the approach that got you killed.

How can you recover gear faster and re-equip?

Use the nearest faction-held COP when it gives you a quicker return, and use attached tracking tags to locate your equipment on the map.

These options address different parts of recovery. A suitable respawn point helps with the journey; a tracking tag helps with finding the equipment once you are looking for it. Neither overrides the rules that decide whether you can loot a body.

Before another deployment, put protected items inside your Lockbox and plan the equipment you will carry with the best loadout page. The priority is to recover the gear you still have access to without turning one recovery trip into another death.

In Warfare, arrange help from your own squad if you die again on the way back. Squad recovery can save equipment from an older body while it remains on the map.

How long does your body stay, and what stops you looting it?

Each body stays on the map for 60 minutes, but you can personally loot only your latest body, and session restrictions can remove access sooner.

If you die again, your older body remains visible but you cannot loot it. Interacting with it gives the too old message. The 60-minute body timer is therefore not a promise that you personally have 60 minutes to recover every set of equipment.

Waiting for aggressor status to expire does not restore access to that body. Ending the expedition or timing out also makes even your latest body too old to loot.

If a crash interrupts recovery, reconnect within 10 minutes. For connection trouble during that return, go straight to server and connection errors; the reconnect limit still matters.

Can your squad recover your gear in PvE or PvP?

Your squad can help recover an older body's gear in Warfare, but Joint Operations PvE prevents players from looting anyone else's body.

Warfare

Squadmates can save gear from your older body after you die again during recovery. Arrange this before the body's 60-minute lifetime ends. This gives your squad a recovery option when you personally receive the too old message.

A faction member outside your squad is subject to aggressor rules for looting your old body. Being in the same faction does not provide the same exception as being in your squad.

Joint Operations PvE

You can loot only your own latest body. Other players cannot loot it for you, and you cannot loot theirs. Your older bodies still remain on the map for 60 minutes, but their presence does not let a squadmate recover their contents.

When you are ready to head out again, choose your replacement equipment with the best loadout page.
